White Guy Sings Tagalog Song Magasin by Eraserheads

"Ako si Chris" ("I Am Chris" in Tagalog) is the moniker of a white American guy from Hoboken, New Jersey. He sings OPM or Original Pilipino Music with an American twist calling it "jOePM". His MySpace page: www.myspace.com/akosichris

Below, he performs the Tagalog song "Magasin" by the Pinoy rock band Eraserheads.

A funny song made funnier by the pronunciation, which is actually not bad at all. (There's an outtake at the end of the song on the video.)

ORIGINAL TAGALOG LYRICS

Kita kita sa isang magasin
Dilaw ang iyong suot at... buhok mo'y green
Sa isang tindahan
Sa may Baclaran
Napatingin, natulala sa iyong kagandahan
Naalala mo pa ba noong tayo pang dalawa
'Di ko inakalang sisikat ka
Tinawanan pa kita
Tinawag mo 'kong walang hiya
Medyo pangit ka pa noon
Ngunit ngayon... Hey!

CHORUS:
Iba na ang iyong ngiti
Iba na ang iyong tingin
Nagbago nang lahat sa 'yo
Sana'y hindi nakita
Sana'y walang problema pagka't kulang ang dala kong perang
Pambili.... oooh..... pambili sa mukha mong maganda
Siguro ay may kotse ka na ngayon
Rumarampa sa entablado
Damit na gawa ni Sotto
Siguro'y malapit ka na ring sumali
Sa Supermodel of the Whole Wide Universe.... kasi!

(repeat CHORUS)

Kita kita sa isang magasin
At sa sobrang gulat hindi ko napansin
Bastos pala ang pamagat
Dali-daliang binuklat
At ako'y namulat sa hubad na katotohanan.... hey!

(repeat CHORUS)

Saan ka na kaya?
Sana ay masaya
Sana sa susunod na isyu
Ay centerfold ka na...

The "Sotto" in the song refers to famous fashion designer Inno Sotto. He is known as "Manila's Prince of Fashion" in the Philippines. The song is about a man seeing a woman he knows in a magazine. He remembers making fun of her in the past. He is so surprised by her current fame (she's in a magazine!!) that he at first doesn't notice the magazine's lurid title. It's a girlie magazine! He then wishes that next time she gets on the centerfold.
